Artist Interview - Annie Flynn
I grew up in St. Louis, MO. After attending college in Bloomington, IN at Indiana University where I majored in Fine Arts and Printmaking, I returned to St. Louis where I live with my husband and two children.
My day is structured around dropping my girls off at school and picking them up later in the day, which is quite a commute, and that leaves me the day free to work at my leisure. I work from home where I have a studio space upstairs, but I also work on my paper pieces at the kitchen table. I like to listen to all kinds of music while working, and lately I have been listening to television comedies for background noise.
I collect visual inspiration on-line, in magazines, from fashion, taking note of particular details in my own art and that of others that attract me and then I attempt to employ that element in my work. I like to look at both old and new art and I enjoy new color combinations, patterns, landscapes and florals in particular.
I have always wanted to be an artist and I remember as a child I used to make my own paper dolls and draw two-story houses. Some of my favorite artists include the Impressionists such as Monet and Bonnard, and Post-Impressionists such as Klimt, as well as Sargent and Turner. Social media is a great way to find and follow other artists I admire, and through Pinterest I have gained many followers including companies who have contacted me for licensing wall décor and other products.
I find the most joy in creating a wide variety of artworks in various styles and media, from realism to impressionism and decorative pieces. I love art and I look forward to creating every day.
